It’s spooky season!

The Goal

My goal is to watch at least one Halloween themed movie every day this month. The movie may be a horror movie, animated movie, or anything in-between! Ideally I will watch at least one film per day that I haven’t seen before. I also plan to write a short blurb about the movie that I have watched and post it here on this blog!

Day 1: October 1st

🎥 Movie: Friday the 13th
🗓️ Release Year: 1980
🍿 MPA Rating: R
⌚ Duration: 95 Minutes
📺 Where I Watched: Peacock

📝 IMDB Description: A group of teenage camp counselors attempt to re-open an abandoned summer camp with a tragic past, but they are stalked by a mysterious, relentless killer. See Full IMDB Page

🎬 Letterboxd Review: I thought the theme song was pretty good. I wish we had learned a little bit more about Jason, but I guess that’s what the other films are for. The characters were pretty typical slasher movie characters. I did like the reveal of the killer being Pamela Voorhees aka Jason’s mom. The final fight scenes between Alice Pamela Voorhees was so annoying. It was ridiculous. I did like the portrayl of Pam where she plays both Jason and herself. “Mommy kill her.” “I will Jason. I will.” Then when Alice manages to decapitate Pam in one swipe while the entire time she could barely hit here. Unbelievable. I did gasp when Jason popped up out of the water in the dream sequence of Alice. Overall it was an alright film. I can’t say that I’ll watch it again.

🎥 Movie: Corpse Bride
🗓️ Release Year: 2005
🍿 MPA Rating: PG
⌚ Duration: 77 Minutes
📺 Where I Watched: HBO Max

📝 IMDB Description: When a shy groom practices his wedding vows in the inadvertent presence of a deceased young woman, she rises from the grave assuming he has married her. See Full IMDB Page

🎬 Letterboxd Review: I liked this. I didn’t realize it was kind of a musical. It had some funny lines. It was a good Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter film. The story was good, but I think I personally just don’t necessarily care for the animation style. I respect it, but it just isn’t my favorite.

“I’ve got a dwarf.”

“Mystery woman? He doesn’t even know any women!”

“Don’t be ridiculous. What corpse would marry our Victor?”

“There’s an eye in me soup.”

“You don’t know me, but I used to live in your dead mother.”

“Alfred? You’ve been dead for 15 years.” “Frankly my dear I don’t give a damn.”

Day 3: October 3rd

I was on a trip, and I did not get a chance to watch a film this day. 🙈 I did watch a portion of the film Suspira (1977) through the window while waiting for brunch, but I think for this I want to have watched the film in its entirety.

Day 4: October 4th

Once again, I was on a trip, and I did not get a chance to watch a film this day. 🙈 I will make up for it sometime this month.

Day 5: October 5th

🎥 Movie: Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo!
🗓️ Release Year: 2022
🍿 MPA Rating: G
⌚ Duration: 72 Minutes
📺 Where I Watched: HBO Max

📝 IMDB Description: With Coco and kitty in prison, Mystery Inc. thinks that they can finally enjoy a break. See Full IMDB Page

🎬 Letterboxd Review: This Scooby Doo movie was just alright. I did like Coco Diablo. I also loved that it was Matthew Lillard as Scooby; however, the voice for Velma threw me off so much. I thought the plot was a standard Scooby Doo movie, but idk there was just something about it I didn’t particularly care for. I did like the nostalgia of the original criminals. We saw the miner, the robot, the ghost of Captain Cutler, and some others. We see Velma trying to flirt with Coco, and it went as you expected. I thought the catching of the perpetrator was a little dull. I did like the scene where it shows Scooby and Shaggy sleeping in each other’s beds which I thought was quite believable. I also liked Shaggy and Scooby dressed up as each other in their dream sequence. Overall, this was mid, and I don’t think I’d watch it again. It did have some funny lines though.

🎥 Movie: Hotel Transylvania 4: Transformania
🗓️ Release Year: 2022
🍿 MPA Rating: PG
⌚ Duration: 87 Minutes
📺 Where I Watched: Prime Video

📝 IMDB Description: After one experiment, Johnny turns into a monster and everyone else becomes human. Now it has to be seen whether they will be able to reverse this experiment. See Full IMDB Page

🎬 Letterboxd Review: A fun continuation of the franchise. It picks up not too long after the 3rd film where they go on a cruise. Almost every other voice was the same person with the exception of Dracula, but I think Brian Hull did a phenomenal job. I almost didn’t know it was a different actor.

I thought the story was cute. We didn’t really see much of Dennis. It was focused mainly on Drac and Jonny, and I liked seeing more of their relationship. The story was a little predictable, but I thought it was fun. It was silly seeing the other main characters transform into humans. I’d probably watch this again.

🎥 Movie: Madagascar: A Little Wild - A Fang-tastic Halloween
🗓️ Release Year: 2020

📝 IMDB Description: After hearing spooky rumors about the new habitat resident- A BAT- Marty is determined to protect his friends from the newcomer. But when the bat helps him out of a tough situation, Marty learns it’s better to get to know someone before judging them. See Full IMDB Page

🎬 Letterboxd Review: This was a cute short film about learning not to judge others too soon. It had some songs which were a little silly, but it was geared towards kids. I did think the pumpkin carving was cute. I also liked the monkeys used sign language which is what some in the zoos have been taught. This makes me want to have a glowing top hat or crown like they were able to quickly make.

🎥 Movie: Lone Star Shark
🗓️ Release Year: 2025
🍿 MPA Rating: TV-MA
⌚ Duration: 65 Minutes
📺 Where I Watched: Tubi

📝 IMDB Description: A shark terrorizes a young couple on a small Texas lake. See Full IMDB Page Here is the LetterBoxd description bc tbh the IMDB one sucks: A group of virtual hunters unleash a deadly shark in a Texas lake, causing a young couple to fight for their lives during a peaceful fishing trip in a secluded cove. Also read this review for a chuckle (after you read mine of course 😤)

🎬 Letterboxd Review: Alright let’s discuss…

  1. We got some people in an office discussing I don’t even know what. Why is he making his voice sound like that????
  2. We have a woman who’s smelling a shirt and some other girl is creepily looking in. She’s about to get caught and hides it, and her husband is like I know what you are doing.
  3. They have their jacked up truck and they go to the smallest lake arguably a pond.
  4. She has some weird memory holding a gun on the pier. The husband makes some lame ass joke.
  5. They’re on a boat in the tiny as lake.
  6. Guy at the marina??? What marina??
  7. The shark looks so bad.
  8. Dumbass tossed his phone in the lake. They have no signal but we literally can see the shore. I don’t believe it.
  9. There’s a camera constantly recording that we see. What is this screen? Is it supposed to be the shark?
  10. The boat moving so slowly with music that tries to make it seem faster is ridiculous. They are going in circles. The large body of water they show is most certainly not anywhere close to them.
  11. They did not find a cove. They pulled up on the side.
  12. Mitch this isn’t a fucking sailboat.
  13. Why is Mitch’s back constantly to the camera??
  14. The anchor is stuck? How about get onto the shore you’re literally right by and walk. You can’t possibly have gone that far.
  15. “No it’s not fine Mitch. It’s a big ass shark!”
  16. Wow Mitch show a little compassion.
  17. The shark got human teeth.
  18. THE SHORE IS RIGHT BY YOU. JUMP OFF THE FUCKING BOAT.
  19. Via is annoying too.
  20. Mitch you dumbass. You dropped the phone into the lake.
  21. Back to these people in an office building, what is happening? The man sounds like the grinch.
  22. How did Mitch fall in?
  23. Mitch’s cut was not that bad for him to be acting that way.
  24. How did the other boat not see them or the shark or anything?
  25. THE SHORE IS NEXT TO YOU WHAT DO YOU MEAN?? Going to pass out?? Mitch you’ve lost very little blood. You have flesh wound you’re fine.
  26. Why did she have to strip to her swimsuit and take off all her jewerly to get in the water to swim to shore? Isn’t this life or death?
  27. She didn’t get a foot from the boat before the shark appeared, and he freaked out and was like get back in the boat. She has basically 0 reaction.
  28. “I thought you were going to make it.” No you fucking did not. Don’t lie Mitch.
  29. I will give them props for getting sunburnt.
  30. Where is the shark? What is this view? Is he in the sky?
  31. That is not how you code. You don’t have big flashing things that say system engaged or whatever stupid thing it said.
  32. The scene where she finds her sister. She wasn’t saying that the first time. Why is it different??
  33. The blood looks so fake on the mirror.
  34. How did she not hear the shot? Why is the gunshot on the wrong side of her head? The gun fell from her right hand, but the shot was on her left.
  35. I know it’s Texas bc she got a Kendra Scott necklace on.
  36. Mitch’s wound is minuscule how is he dying??
  37. THEY HAD A BAG THIS WHOLE FUCKING TIME WITH A GIANT ASS KNIFE AND FOOD??? Why does he have a giant kitchen knife 🤨
  38. Again this isn’t how hacking and coding works.
  39. Are they stealing credit card data? What was the point of that shot?
  40. Why wasn’t she already undressed as soon as he got in the water?
  41. Bye Mitch. You’re being eaten by the papier-mâché shark.
  42. Why did she call no one after she found her sister? Why is her blood all over her face? Hello????
  43. Was this whole movie a dream? I’m going to be pissed if so.
  44. Thank goodness it wasn’t all a dream.
  45. Ah so her family was crazy. Is this weird guy her dad? He said some of the same poems as Via’s sister Claire.
  46. Her not breaking the stick on the first try was great.
  47. The shark is in completely different waters than her.
  48. Where is the camera that is watching them?
  49. She’s stabbing and the shark is just there like 😐
  50. Where did this man with a gun come from? “Hey girl you alright?” Was he just watching like this dumb bitch?? How did she not see him?? The lake is wide open.
  51. We see the creepy guy’s face. Why do they speak in riddles?
  52. She made it home with a broken arm. How did she get that? She also speaks to her dead sister.
  53. She’s still being watched. She got rid of a nightstand like okay?
  54. This is not how coding works. It’s so dumb.
  55. If I could rate this film 0 I would. The fact they made two more in the same year is astounding.

🎥 Movie: Water Park Shark
🗓️ Release Year: 2026
🍿 MPA Rating: PG-13
⌚ Duration: 91 Minutes
📺 Where I Watched: Tubi

📝 IMDB Description: When Great White Sharks storm a Cape Cod water park, a washed-up football star-turned-lifeguard and his ex-girlfriend police chief must uncover the shocking secret drawing in the ocean’s biggest predators before it’s too late. See Full IMDB Page

🎬 Letterboxd Review: The first thing I notice is this has an actual MPA rating of PG-13 and not TV-MA like the others.

  1. How did the shark get from the pool and magically coming down the water slide?
  2. Did the shark eat them whole and get rid of all the blood in the water?
  3. They keep saying something is wrong with his leg but like what is wrong with it? It seems like it was from a football injury.
  4. He magically put on the whistle so fast.
  5. Why does coach keep slapping his ass? Why is the sound effect so strong?
  6. Why did he get partly pat down when he was going in to pay his parking fines?
  7. Why is he so sad about leaving the park? He worked there literally one day.
  8. Why would she ride down a slide that has something obstructing it?
  9. Subplot of mayor using a ton of power to do some weird job.
  10. We found something. Can you come over here? Um girl they don’t even know where you are.
  11. Wow we’re investigating sharks, so I’m going to stick my hand in the water and scream when a shark appears.
  12. Shark looking kinda girly pop. She’s feeding it gummies. It has no teeth. She wants to pet it. She deserves to die.
  13. Just a casual med degree folk whose day job is working at the water park.
  14. Another sub plot of blue goop which we see being pumped out from the park. Not discretely may I add.
  15. Did he ever retrieve his duffel bag and call the guy from his football team?
  16. Definitely nothing suspicious about yelling across the river that something is coming your way
  17. Was he able to get in contact with the slide people? They sent the one girl down, but he never talked to anybody else after that???
  18. I’d be a little more concerned if my friend just disappeared in the pool.
  19. Plot twist he was an FBI agent and is investigating the park even after losing his job as an agent.
  20. Omg they’re crypto mining how 2026 can this movie get?
  21. Why didn’t they get everyone out the park when the sharks broke through the wall?
  22. Why didn’t she handcuff him to anything? She was like stay here. Like duh he’s not going to listen.
  23. She zapped it with the defibrillator.
  24. I love how the kids from the whole film were able to whack a shark with the lifeguard stick.
  25. The mayor has a timer on his phone that says my data transfer 😐
  26. She didn’t think to check on the mayor the entire time they had their montage of planning to get rid of the sharks.
  27. Thought she was the lifeguard 🤨 why did the chief have to get in to save her.
  28. How did the lock get there? Um m’am you left the mayor to just stay put. Also the mayor left bolt cutters easily accessible.
  29. “Coach step 69: Don’t mess with coach.”
  30. She has perfect aim of the t-shirt cannon to spit out Gatorade into the big bucket.
  31. Perfect throw to get the thing unstuck from gotta be significant distance, the mayor magically catches it, the girl saves the toothless shark, the girl defibrillates the water and doesn’t electrocute herself. Wow. Wait then she’s still moving some and is able to shock herself alive. What.
  32. Coach is in the bluest water that was def not the same water as the lake. The shark with no teeth has survived with not water. The music at the end is fun though.
  33. Let’s makeout while everyone watches. Then they follow it up with a super cringe high five with boosted audio effects.

This movie wasn’t too bad. It had a decent plot idea. Yeah it was cringey and silly, but it wasn’t unbearable. I liked that Gums has their own thing at the end. Woah wait the mayor was working with the football coach guy??? The mayor somehow got the crypto stick. No one thought to look for him after? Okay the AI sounding song in the credits brings it down.

🎬 Review: I binged watched season 2 in two days. I would have definitely finished in one, but I wanted to try to savor it. I thought the second season was just as good as the first. I love the characters, and it very much reminds me of Gravity Falls. I though the storylines fit, and it was fun to see more about the characters, and we even saw some more of their past. I will most likely be re-watching this again. I do wish that season 2 had 10 episodes like season 1 but alas beggars can’t be choosers.

📺 Where I Watched: Prime Video

📝 IMDB Description: While Dr. Loomis hunts for Michael Myers, a traumatized Laurie is rushed to Haddonfield Memorial Hospital, and The Shape is not far behind her. See Full IMDB Page

🎬 Letterboxd Review: It’s not a slasher film if the characters don’t make the dumbest decisions ever. Lori just stands there multiple times screaming and staring instead of running. We see multiple nurses just freeze and watch as Michael Myers looks on at them.

I do enjoy the music change every time Michael comes on screen because you know most likely that someone is about to die. The music has a little bit more electric beats in this film which I honestly liked the original better. I like that Dr. Loomis threatens the Marshall, and the Marshall is so monotone about the whole thing.

I feel like the backstory they tried to add onto this film is unnecessary and convoluted. I also didn’t really pick it up until they said it out loud, and it’s easily missed. I really only know they tried to make Michael and Lori siblings by reading some trivia on the movie.

I do like that it picks up directly from the first film, and the fact that it primarily takes place in the hospital is neat. It’s a decent slasher film with a decent amount of gore, but it wasn’t over the top gore. I can’t necessarily say I’ll watch it again though… but maybe if I wanted a Halloween slasher in the background.

🎬 Letterboxd Review: Kitschy, campy movie.

I love the little dog, and I liked seeing Elvira warm up to it. The repainting the house scene was great. It has some good one-liners. Baby Elvira with her makeup was pretty good.

I love how she finds the book and has no clue what it says. She makes one spell and sees how horrible it is then proceeds to try a different one.

Omg that one lady just stuck her whole finger in the pot at the potluck everyone just watched her do it. Yuck.

I love how they locked her dog up with her in jail. I live the throw of her high heel. Bob really turned around. I also liked how both Bob and the dog had neck braces.

The ending was a show, but I think it was fitting for her character. I thought the film overall was fun.

There was a some of the fourth wall break, but it fit well in the film.
