My Thoughts 🧠:
I am going to be 100% transparent… I was a hater going into the movie. I thought the tech angle was going to be outdated because Lilypad reminded me of vtech and leapfrog. However, the Lilypad was much more similar to a modern-day iPad.

The film itself was very relatable as it highlights the technology addiction that is so prevalent today. It also shows just how easy it is to become addicted to the Lilypad. There are a few scenes where it shows all the kids and adults looking at screens and yikes. We also see Bonnie progress from using it occasionally to getting upset when it doesn’t charge, or she can’t get onto her tablet as soon as she wakes up.

In terms of the plot, I thought it was well paced, and it was believable. We see Bonnie progress from playing with physical tools to being solely entertained by the Lilypad. I really liked the big focus on Jessie, and the new toys that she interacts with. We see more history of Jessie, and we even return to her first child’s home.

I loved Blaze’s pig being named Jimmy Dean šŸ–. I thought that was super cute and fun.

We don’t see a lot of Woody in this film, but I think that was a good choice. We focus a lot more on Jessie and Buzz Lightyear, and they had a cute subplot line.

There are a lot of themes in the movie surrounding loneliness, wanting to fit in, and bullying.

🚨This section might contain small spoilers for the film. Scroll to the next italicized text.🚨

Bonnie wants so badly to have friends, and when she gets the Lilypad she starts making ā€œfriendsā€ with some girls in her dance. Eventually they become mean to Bonnie, and she’s back feeling alone. Jessie also has some themes about loss and feeling unwanted. She was abandoned by her first child, and she continues to carry that with her.

I definitely think a few things were a little far-fetched, but it’s a children’s movie so I’ll let it slide. I think the main one was Bonnie’s mom showing up to Blaze’s house, and they were like oh yeah here’s your toys even though they didn’t post it themselves. There is also when Blaze’s mom just drops her daughter off at someone’s house and is like yeah this is fine. The toys and Lilypad definitely gaslit (for lack of better word) the family a lot. For example, when Lilypad texts Bonnie’s dad to put the toys away, they didn’t really question it later when Bonnie was like why did you do that?? There was another one where Bonnie thanked her dad for packing her toys, and he was like ā€œI did what? Oh yeah no problem.ā€ Like lol what??

🚨No more spoilers here!🚨

Overall, I think the movie is super cute and definitely worth the watch!
